Heading for a Hyundai victory in the Nurburgring 24hrs

MAY 2010 ASTON MARTIN DOUBLE PODIUM!

After a gruelling Nurburgring 24hr race last weekend, Aston Martin Motorsport were rewarded with a double podium finish in the SP8 class!

The new Rapide proved its sportscar credentials by claiming second place in the hands of Dr Ulrich Bez, Chris Porritt, Wolfgang Schuhbauer and Mathew Marsh. Success for the team's V12 Vantage, driven by Pete, Chris Porritt, Richard Meaden and Oliver Mathai, did not come quite so smoothly. The first challenge arose after seventeen hours, but thanks to a super-fast driveshaft change by the team, the car was able to maintain the class lead on rejoining. However, a more serious fuel pump problem halted the car on track in the eighteenth hour, requiring recovery and pump replacement in the pit. This dropped the Vantage to fourth in class and required laps to be driven close to qualifying speed for the reminder of the race to enable a recovery to third place.

Aston Martin double podium, 2010 Nurburgring 24hrs

"This was an incredible weekend for me," Pete smiled afterwards. "The team was very professional, and took a lot of trouble to ensure I was comfortable both in the car and out, which meant I could concentrate on learning the car and giving my best performance. The result is not a reflection of what the V12 Vantage can achieve, but it's only the beginning of that story. To be part of this double podium is fantastic, and I want to thank Aston Martin for this opportunity."

A full report of this event from Pete's perspective can be found here.

MAY 2010 ASTON MARTIN GIVES YOU WIIINGS!

It's that time again already, and Pete is gearing up for his most ambitious assault yet on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, in the 2010 ADAC 24 hour race (15/16 May).

Having realised immediate success with the relatively standard V12 Vantage at the second VLN 4 hour race in early April, the team "promoted" Pete to the top Aston Martin factory entry, joining Chris Porrit, Richard Meaden and Oliver Mathai in the heavily modified V12 Vantage. This car is featured in EVO magazine and incorporates a highly developed aerodynamic package designed to increase downforce and cornering speeds around the track's eighty four corners.

 Aston Martin V12 Vantage

"I had the chance to be involved with recent tests to develop this car," Pete commented. "The team have done a phenomenal amount of work, both to build up the car and to tune the aero and suspension set up to the track. I am thrilled to be part of this program and look forward to giving it my best shot in the twenty four hours. The car is capable of a very good finish, but the standard of the competition has increased in recent years so we will all need to be at the absolute top of our game."

Further information concerning this world class endurance race may be found in this SPECIAL FEATURE section.

APRIL 2010 TRAGEDY AT THE RING

The debut of the modified factory Aston Martin V12 Vantage at the third VLN race meeting of the year was a highly anticipated affair. The car had been extensively developed over the winter with a full-on aerodynamic package intended to maximise the car's potential around the many twists and turns of the Nordschleife.

As it happened, the event was overshadowed by the tragic fatal accident of Leo Loewenstein, driver of an Aston Martin N24.

A report from Pete's perspective can be found here.

APRIL 2010 ASTON MARTIN PODIUM!

On their racing debut together, Aston Martin Motorsport together with Pete, were able to score a podium finish at the Nurburgring last weekend. Pete was sharing the Vantage V12 with Aston Martin chief Dr Ulrich Bez, and Wolfgang Schubauer, Aston Martin test driver, in the DMV 4 hour VLN championship race.

 Aston Martin V12 Vantage

"This is the realisation of a life-long dream," Pete commented. "I always watched a particular Aston Martin race at my local circuit when I was a boy and to be piloting the modern day equivalent with the factory team today is just incredible. And to do this at the Nurburgring Nordschleife, the world's best race track, is just the icing on the cake! I have to thank Dr Bez and David King for making this happen, and the whole team at Aston Martin for the faultless preparation and running of the car through this race. Second place in our class was a great reward!"

For a full report of this event from Pete's perspective, please click here. Pete's next outing with Aston Martin will be the VLN 3 race on 24th April at the Nurburgring.

MARCH 2010 TESTING TIMES!

A successful test at the Nurburgring Nordschleife last weekend saw Pete once again pilot the Aston Martin Motorsport Vantage around the infamous Grüne Hölle in north western Germany.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24

"I have to thank Aston Martin once again for the excellent preparation I'm able to enjoy for this season. I'm now as familiar with the V8 Vantage as I need to be, having driven it in both rain and shine. The car is very straightforward to drive, and it is clear how much effort has gone into making it so, both from a fundamental vehicle engineering perspective and also from a suspension development perspective at the Aston Martin Technical Centre. I'm now very much looking forward to experiencing the extra torque of the V12!"

With Pete a firm fixture in the team, announcements will soon be made regarding Aston Martin's driver line ups for the forthcoming VLN races (10th April and 24th April), in addition to the highlight of the season, the 24 hours on 15/16th May.

JANUARY 2010 NEW TEAM, NEW LID!

Further discussions with Aston Martin at the Autosport International Show have confirmed details of their 2010 season, and the role Pete will play in their endurance racing campaign.

"I am really excited by the opportunity the Aston Martin have offered me. It's long been a goal of mine to have the opportunity to race for a factory team and to have this happen with Aston Martin is a dream. I'm even redesigning my longstanding helmet graphics for this season, as a small celebration! I already met the team at the test last year, a top-notch set of folks, and with a pre-season test schedule already set up, we are in great shape for an excellent season."

Official announcements concerning the race cars Aston Martin Engineering Race Team will field, and the events to be contested, will be released in the coming months. We will of course endeavour to keep you up to date here.

DECEMBER 2009 HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

We wish all who continue to follow Peter's racing career a very happy Christmas and a successful 2010! Thank you for all your support through an eventful season.

Für unsere deutschen Freunde wünschen wir Ihnen ein sehr glückliches Weihnachten und beste Wünsche für 2010!

We are particularly excited by the interest shown by Aston Martin to work with Pete, and harness all his racing experience of the last 20 years. Check this site to stay up to date on this and our other racing plans.

OCTOBER 2009 ASTON MARTIN TEST

As a result of discussions at Le Mans, Aston Martin arranged for Pete to test their highly-acclaimed V8 Vantage N24 at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Conditions were not exactly ideal for a debut in a new car, with freezing rain and changeable conditions preventing any meaningful running. However, Pete didn't put a foot wrong, lapping respectably and staying out of trouble. As a result, the Aston Martin Engineering Race Team have expressed a desire for Peter to join their endurance racing program in 2010.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24

"I very much enjoyed the opportunity to drive the Vantage at the 'Ring and I'm very grateful to David King for arranging the test. Aston Martin have done a tremendous job developing this car and I found it very comfortable to drive at speed, despite the atrocious conditions. I can already see why the team has seen so much endurance-racing success with their Vantage and I look forward to continuing that success with Aston Martin in 2010."

AUGUST 2009 ISLAND SUCCESS!

Connell Racing with Team “Cuisine de France / SPAR enjoyed a second victory of the year as the FunCup series visited Anglesey.

Despite changeable weather conditions, the team took the victory after flawless driving resulted in a one minute lead over the opposition after six hours of racing.

The next race will take place at Oulton Park, Pete's old "local" track, on 17th October.

JULY 2009 SPA 25 HRS

Connell Racing with Team “Cuisine de France / SPAR experienced an exciting Spa debut for their new diesel FunCup car in the 2009 edition of the gruelling 25 hour race.

The team qualified an impressive 12th out of 151 entrants, and ran as high as 3rd overall (leading the 25 strong UK contingent by more than three laps) before a frustrating electrical fire in the twentieth hour destroyed any chance of a return to the Spa podium. A recovery to 59th place overall was scant reward for the immense effort from the drivers and the Solutions Racing team members.

JUNE 2009 LE MANS

Contesting the world famous Le Mans 24 hours has always been a target event for Pete, and the journey to La Sarthe proved useful in setting the stage for future involvement.

"It was great to be able to witness first hand the incredible battle between Audi and Peugeot. The Aston Martin - Lola was awesome as the quickest petrol car, as was the Corvette C6R in GT1. I'd like to thank all of these teams for their hospitality, as well as their technology partner Dow Automotive for sponsoring this trip".

With several fruitful discussions taking place over the weekend, we hope to be able to incorporate a Le Mans program into Pete's racing schedule in forthcoming years.

MAY 2009 MISSED OPPORTUNITY AT THE NORDSCHLEIFE

The world-famous Nurburgring 24 hour race took place last weekend with Pete driving the Brückner Motorsport Carlsson CK35 RS Mercedes SLK alongside experienced Nurburgring drivers Peter Venn, Yasushi Kikuchi and Wolfgang Kudrass.

The event turned out to be more challenging that usual for the team, starting with an engine failure in qualifying, and ending in a similar way 19 hours into the race. Nevertheless, the car ran competitively and was on course for an excellent result.

"Despite the non-finish, I really enjoyed driving this car," Pete commented. "Everyone worked incredibly hard as we encountered all sorts of problems through the weekend, and I'd like to thank Rainer, his team and his family for their efforts. The result was not what we deserved, but that's racing. We'll be back again next year looking for a clear run to the flag.

A full report of the race from Pete's perspective can be found here.

APRIL 2009 24H WITH MERCEDES!

We have been working incredibly hard to secure a competitive drive for Pete at the Nurburgring 24 hour race in May. Our efforts have finally paid off, and Pete has been offered a berth with the very quick Carlsson CK35 RS Mercedes, run by Brückner Motorsport in the hotly-contested SP6 class. Pete will be teaming up with fellow Brit and old sparring-partner Peter Venn, together with experienced Nurburgring drivers Yasushi Kikuchi and Wolfgang Kudrass.

Bruckner Mercedes CK 35 RS

"I am absolutely thrilled to be offered this opportunity by Mr Brückner. After the last few weeks of uncertainty, it is great to know I will be competing at the Nürburgring again this year, and with such a professional team. The Mercedes CK 35 RS is particularly impressive and I look forward to working with the whole team to get the best result possible. I'd really also like to thank Lars-Frederik for all his efforts to pull this deal together."

The Nürburgring 24 hour race takes place on May 23/24th and more information can always be found at http://adac.24h-rennen.de.

APRIL 2009 VICTORY AT ROCKINGHAM!

Connell Racing with Team “Cuisine de France / SPAR raced to victory in the first round of the 2009 Fun Cup UK series at Rockingham on Saturday 4th April in their new TDI diesel Fun Cup car run by Solutions Racing.

Fun Cup 2009

With an exciting schedule of UK and mainland Europe races ahead, including the famous Spa 25 hours in Belgium, interested sponsors may like to contact us at info@petercate.com for details of potential involvement with this successful team.

MARCH 2009 HYUN-DRY

The recent withdrawal of the crack Schumann Motorsport Hyundai Coupe from the 2009 Nurburgring 24hrs has left Peter with something of a challenge.

"Times are tough for sure, and in the long term, Peter Schumann has made the right decision to concentrate on the new car for 2010. It means I'm available to other teams for this year's race but this late in the day, it is difficult to find a competitive opportunity. I guess I know how Jenson Button was feeling before Brawn GP was announced and I'm hoping it will turn out as well for me!"

With several possibilities on the horizon, stay tuned as the next few weeks will reveal whether the right deal can be put together in time.

FEBRUARY 2009 FUNCUP CALENDAR ANNOUNCED

The 2009 UK FunCup championship schedule may be found here. Once again the incredible Spa 25hrs is included, and with the new diesel car on track, Connell Racing stand an excellent chance of victory.

In the meantime, you can find a couple of TV excerpts from the last round of the 2008 championship by clicking Oulton Park 1 or Oulton Park 2.

JANUARY 2009 NEW YEAR, NEW CAR!

New and exciting to the Fun Cup for 2009 is the introduction of the TDI diesel car with the more powerful 1900cc 160bhp engine produced by Volkswagen. Connell Racing with Team “Cuisine de France” is delighted to announce that they will be racing a new VW Fun Cup TDI for the 2009 race season.

Fun Cup is the first motor racing series in the UK and Europe to be promoting the use of the environmentally friendly TDI engine in its race cars. The engines produce approximately 30 % less pollution, 40 % less noise, and emit no visible smoke from the exhausts.

"This clean green approach is very relevant to the environmental concerns of our times, but practically speaking, the TDI also represents a performance advantage which the leading teams will maximise on track this season," Pete comments.

Team Chief Ian Connell has also announced a new partnership with Solutions Racing (www.solutionsracing.com), who will prepare and run the Cuisine de France. As in previous seasons, Peter plans to join Connell Racing for a number of events through 2009 (including the highlight of the calendar, the Spa 25 hours), alongside his other racing commitments.

DECEMBER 2008 HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

We wish all who continue to follow Peter's racing career a very happy Christmas and a successful 2009! Thank you for all your support through an eventful season.

Für unsere deutschen Freunde wünschen wir Ihnen ein sehr glückliches Weihnachten und beste Wünsche für 2009!

We are looking forward to another year of endurance racing, both in UK and abroad. Check this site through the season for race reports and updates on Pete's plans.

NOVEMBER 2008 NURBURGRING 24 HOUR 2009

The dates for the 2009 Nurburgring 24 hour race have been announced. The 37th ADAC Zurich Nurburgring 24 hour race will take place from 21st – 24th May 2009 as ever at the famous Nordschleife circuit.

Pete has once again been offered a seat with the crack Schumann Motorsport Hyundai squad for this classic race in the heart of the German Eifel mountains. We also have several other irons in the fire in support of Pete's ever greater aspirations in endurance and GT racing. We'll report progress on this site as it happens.

OCTOBER 2008 OULTON PARK

After a long summer break, Peter returned to the race seat at Oulton Park last weekend, to contest the final event of the season in the UK FunCup Championship with Connell Racing.

Unfortunately the final result didn't reflect the true pace of the car and driver line up. Their race ended whilst running in a very competitive fourth place, with the car in the barriers at the very fast Island Bend, just fifteen minutes from the chequered flag.

A complete report of the race can be found here.

JULY 2008 RELENTLESS AT SPA

A fraught 25 hours of Spa Francorchamps saw Peter and the Cuisine de France team of Ian, Richard and Marc Connell stage a tremendous fight back through the field after an early incident dropped the car to the very back of the one hundred and thirty three car field.

"We had the car working really well. I found there was no car faster from Le Combes to Stavelot and our qualifying position (13th) was a reflection of that," Pete commented. "Unfortunately, Marc was unlucky to be hit in the chicane early in the race. It could have happened to any of us but it cost us seven laps in the pits. To fight back from there to 31st position by the last lap was testimony to our very consistent driver line up and the excellent pit work of the Abbey Motorsport crew. We were truly "Relentless"!"

A complete report of the race can be found here.

MAY 2008 THE 'RING'S REVENGE

Two separate on-track incidents for the Schumann brothers meant that Peter was only able to tackle a single stint in the awesome Hyundai Coupe in this year's Nurburgring 24 hours.

"Obviously I'm very disappointed as the car has great potential as we proved in 2007," Pete commented. "This is without doubt the most challenging of race tracks and it means accidents are always a possibility, even if they are not your fault! Nevertheless I would welcome the chance to drive for Schumann Motorsport again. They are a fantastic team and deserved a lot more than the result we achieved this year."

A complete report of the race can be found here. Peter's next endurance race outing will the the Spa Francorchamps 25 hours on 12/13th July.

MAY 2008 NURBURGRING 24 HOURS COVERAGE

More than 230 teams have signed up for this years gruelling 24 hour race at the Nurburgring in the German Eifel mountains. You will find all the important information about drivers, cars and classes in the on-line Team Database. Peter will be competing in the ultra-quick Hyundai Coupe #95 in the SP4 class. You can find details of Pete's team mates and all the other cars and drivers here.

In the past it wasn’t easy to remotely follow the action at the 24h-race on the 25.359 km long Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit. The only possibility to stay informed was to use the track radio. Now you can watch this classic race in full length by using the Live-Stream on the official website. Please click here for details.

The 36th ADAC Zurich 24h-race will also be broadcasted over DVB-T. After the successful streaming test last year, the program will be extended to be as close as possible to the race and the pit-lane action. MAY 2008 HELLO MONDELLO!

The SPAR / Cuisine de France team took the ferry across to Dublin for the first round of the hotly contested 2008 Fun Cup last weekend.

"I really like this track" said Pete. "Last time I was here was with the BTCC and I scored a podium finish, so I have some fond memories. The track is not straightforward at any point, so from a driver's perspective, it's a good challenge."

The team found it to be a little more challenging than intended after an unplanned excursion from the black stuff, but recovered to take a creditable finish. A full race report can be read here.

Peter is now gearing up for the highlight of the racing year: the infamous Nurburgring 24 hours on 24/25th May. Further information concerning this classic race may be found in this SPECIAL FEATURE section.

APRIL 2008 FUNCUP IS GO!

Pete will once again be joining Connell Racing for selected events in the Fun Cup through 2008.

"I was really happy with the way things went last year, even if we had some appalling luck," said Pete. "We took our first win together at Croft, we had a good run at Spa until the gearbox let go, Marc and Ian took a fantastic podium at Mondello and we led at Oulton before we were taken out. Abbey Motorsport did a great job and I know they've been working on the car during the winter to improve it further, so I'm keen to get back into things at Mondello Park 6 hours!"

The FunCup kicks off at the Irish circuit on 26th April. Peter will appear again at the Spa 25 hrs (12/13th July) and most likely at Oulton Park (11th October) with the team, with further races currently in discussion pending scheduling conflicts.

MARCH 2008 HYUNDAI CONFIRMED

Despite receiving yet another offer to pilot a front-running Porsche, Pete has opted to run with the Schumann Hyundai team for a second season in this year's Nurburgring 24 hour race.

"Peter and Adi Schumann showed great faith in me in 2007, and I was able to repay them by helping to achieve a fantastic result," Peter commented. "They have made me a great offer this year, and I'm happy to be able to continue our relationship. The team operated very efficiently last year, exactly what a driver needs in a long distance race, and I believe Schumann Motorsport has an even brighter future."

The team has worked over the winter to solve the brake problems which plagued the car in previous events, and have eked a few more horsepower from the engine. Everything is in place for a good result on 24/25th May!

FEBRUARY 2008 DREAM OFFER!

Pete has been offered a dream drive with a front-running Porsche outfit for the 2008 Nurburgring 24 hours!

"I am absolutely thrilled with this opportunity," Peter commented. "It's been a long term goal to progress to a more competitive car for this race each year, and this is for sure a top-ten capable car. It's now just a question of finalising sponsorship for the team. Of course I'm still in discussion with Schumann Motorsport, with regard to the Hyundai Coupe drive, the same car we finished thirteenth overall in 2007. We'll just have to see how things pan out in the next month or so."

JANUARY 2008 RACE DATES ANNOUNCED

The dates for the 2008 Nurburgring 24 hours have been confirmed: the race will take place on 24-25th May, so if you are planning to attend this awesome even, be prepared for every kind of weather, including snow! You may like to view a taster of this stunning event at http://adac.24h-rennen.de/en/shop/dvd-2007.html.

Further information may be found in the Championship Information section of this site, including provisional dates for the 2008 FunCup championship.

DECEMBER 2007 HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

We wish all who continue to follow Peter's racing career a very happy Christmas and a successful 2008!

Für unsere deutschen Freunde wünschen wir Ihnen ein sehr glückliches Weihnachten und beste Wünsche für 2008!

We are looking forward to another year of endurance racing, both in UK and abroad. Check this site through the season for race reports and updates on Pete's plans.

NOVEMBER 2007 FOURTH OF FORTY-FOUR

Team Cuisine de France, with whom Pete competed in the 2007 Uniroyal Funcup, finished 4th overall in this year's championship, in a record year where 44 cars took part.

"I had a great time this year with Ian, Marc and Rich, together with the Abbey Motorsport boys and girls, all of whom I'd like to thanks for their hard work, especially Will and Tony for their patience with all the set up changes! This series is still a lot of fun, with close racing and high standards of driving at the front, at least most of the time. It's a shame we were rammed off the track at Oulton and at Croft, as even half decent results there would have allowed us to win the championship, but the high points more than made up for the lows. We've learned a lot about the car once again, and I hope to get the opportunity to drive with the team in 2008 and help achieve overall championship victory, as well as a win at Spa".

Images of Pete's 2007 race season may be seen in the gallery section of this site.

OCTOBER 2007 OULTON PARK - PODIUM DENIED

The Uniroyal Funcup four hour race at the beautiful Oulton Park looked like it would yield a top result for the Cuisine de France team. After qualifying well up the grid,  Ian and Marc Connell, together with Pete, were able to run in the top five throughout the race, snatching the lead in the middle stages.

A smart pit stop technique and a strategy of staying out of trouble meant in the closing stages, a win was on the cards as the top three circulated nose to tail. However, thanks to the amateurish attentions of car 227 (driven by Croydon and Mardlin) who, despite being two laps down, saw fit to ram the Cuisine de France car off the track, causing much damage and ruining the race result.

"I have to say up until that point, we were really punching above the car's weight, hanging onto much faster cars and taking advantage of other's mistakes. Getting taken out is never pleasant, but getting taken out by a back-marker defies belief. Still, it's been tremendous fun this season, and I have to thank Ian, Marc and Richard for the invitation to join them, and to Abbey Motorsport for their tireless efforts to keep us on track."

A more detailed report of the Oulton race from Pete's perspective can be found here.

AUGUST 2007 SNETTERTON - COULD DO BETTERTON

The Uniroyal Funcup contested a closely-fought four hour race at Snetterton last weekend, with Pete once again joining Ian and Marc Connell in the Abbey Motorsport prepared Cuisine de France car.

A tough race, mainly caused by a mid-field starting position in the random grid draw, was eventually rewarded by an impressive 5th place finish.

"The car performed well all weekend, even if we were concerned by our apparent lack of pace compared to the pole position time. I believe our set up was one of the most consistent in the field, allowing us to lap particularly fast in the closing stages. If we can just get through the early stages of these races without a tangle, we'll have another victory celebration as we did at Croft!"

A more detailed report of the Snetterton race can be found here.

JULY 2007 SPA FRANCORCHAMPS ROLLER COASTER

The 2007 Uniroyal Funcup 25 hour race  took place at Spa Francorchamps last weekend, with the #190 Cuisine de France car of Ian and Marc Connell, co driven by Lars Fredrik Berg and of course by Pete, endured a roller coaster of an event.

Engine problems throughout qualifying meant the car would start 69th (of 160) on Saturday afternoon, and although the team were able to pick up places right away, contact with an errant driver resulted in a puncture and dropped the car to 130th after the Abbey Motorsport crew sprang into action.

There began an incredible fight back through the night, and by mid Sunday morning, the 190 car had climbed to 12th place overall and 2nd in the UK class!! Shortly after however, a mechanical failure in the gearbox forced Pete to stop, and Abbey again became the stars of the show, changing the entire gearbox in a little more then an hour.

The car rejoined in 75th position and in the remaining hours, rose to 60th, with Lars Fredrik enjoying a successful debut in the car, and with Ian finally taking the flag at 5pm after a frustrating but still very enjoyable event.

"Really our problems began with the engine failure on Thursday, which was robbing us of power", Pete commented. "We were still lacking top end power in Friday qualifying, which meant we couldn't take advantage of the slipstream, which is critical around Spa, and that put us amongst the maniacs in the midfield. Even in the race, it was nearly impossible to hang onto the other cars down the straights, even though we were much quicker through most of the curves. I'm sure we could have bettered our result from last year (9th overall), but even so it was a lot of fun and I want to thank Ian for the opportunity to drive with Connell Racing once again.

Later analysis back at the team HQ would reveal compression issues in the engine which were causing a very significant 12bhp loss of power.

A full race report, written as a first hand account of the event by our superstar rookie mechanic Marvin Hall, can be found here.

JULY 2007 THE LONGEST RACE IN THE WORLD!

The big event of the Uniroyal Funcup year is just a couple of weeks away, with over 160 cars are entered for the 2007 25 hour race at Spa Francorchamps (7-9 July).

As for the UK championship rounds, the Connell Racing car will be prepared by Abbey Motorsport, and will feature the successful driver line up from 2006, namely Ian and Marc Connell, and Pete.

"I really feel we have a great team for this event. Last year we made it onto the podium but we want to go one better this time. Abbey have done a great job so far and now it's up to us to stay out of trouble and bring it home!"

In addition, the team is delighted to welcome Lars-Fredrik Berg to the team as reserve driver, as Richard Connell is once again on duty at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and therefore unable to drive at Spa.

"Lars is an experienced Nurburgring driver who has impressed me already in his short driving career. I'm very happy that Ian is giving Lars this opportunity," Pete commented.

JUNE 2007 TAKING THE NURBURGRING BY STORM!

Last weekend (June 9/10), Peter joined the Schumann Hyundai team at the 2007 Nurburgring 24 hours, in what would turn out to be one of his most challenging but ultimately satisfying races.  The Hyundai Coupe proved to be a fantastic machine, and very capable of victory in the SP4 class (up to 2 litre). However, the organisers decided to combine SP4 with SP5 (up to 3 litres) and this, coupled with the inclement weather, offered spectators a thrilling encounter at the infamous Nordschleife circuit.

With a strong driver line up of Peter and Jürgen (Adi) Schumann, Christian Hohenadel and Pete, the team achieved a superb result, finishing 2nd in class and 13th overall (from 220 starters)!

"I feel this is the result we should have had last year," Pete commented. "The team and the car performed perfectly, despite the unbelievable storm conditions (the race start was delayed due to torrential rain and even halted at one point for 6 hours due to poor visibility) and we were the clear winners of the SP4 class. We even did ourselves proud against the more powerful SP5 cars, and only one of those was able to stay ahead of us! I am very grateful to the Schumann team for giving me the opportunity to show what I can do, and to all those behind the scenes who made this happen - they know who they are!"

A full race report can be accessed here.

JUNE 2007 ALL SET FOR THE NORDSCHLEIFE

We are very pleased to announce Peter has been offered a fantastic opportunity to drive with the Hyundai team at the 2007 Nurburgring 24 hours (June 9/10). The Hyundai Coupe 2.6 6 cylinder won the SP4 class in 2006 and has continued to be developed since that victory.

Hyundai Coupe

"We have been working on this for so long, and with time running out, I was starting to doubt we'd get there!" Pete commented. "I'm certainly glad I didn't back off on my training schedule! The car is definitely competitive, even more so than the Civic I drove in 2005 and 2006, and the driver line up is excellent. I am thrilled to be part of this challenge, and to be able to continue my unbroken run of Nurburgring 24 hour races since 2003 and I would like to thank Lars for all his dedication and effort in making this a reality".

For those unfamiliar with the Nurburgring Nordscheife circuit, you may like to read the SPECIAL FEATURE on this site, providing interesting details and facts about the most challenging circuit in the world.

MAY 2007 VICTORY AT CROFT!

Ian, Richard and Marc Connell, together with Peter, enjoyed a perfect start to the 2007 Uniroyal FunCup season at Croft last weekend, with a fantastic victory in the first of the 3 hour endurance races on Saturday. A close run race saw several incidents and safety car period, forcing the team to push hard to the very end to secure a memorable win with Abbey Motorsport.

Croft 3hr Victory

The second race took place on a much windier Sunday, but an unfortunate incident on the first lap, in which the rear of the Cuisine de France car was badly damaged, ruined any chances of a double victory.

"We knew we had a competitive package, right from the test on Friday where Ian ran second quickest, and we put that to good use with the fantastic win on Saturday," commented Peter. "Sunday was just the opposite quite literally. The rules mean the grid is reversed for the second race, and with an unusually disorganised start procedure, we ended up in a first corner traffic jam in which another car ultimately drove into our rear right wheel and broke the hub. The team, especially Will, did an exceptional job to get the car out again but the gap was just too great to make up. Disappointed doesn't even get to 1% of how we feel, but at least we were able to set second fastest lap after we repaired the car, which bodes well for Mondello in June."

A full race report can be found here.

APRIL 2007 FUN CUP COMING

The 2007 Uniroyal Fun Cup kicks off at Croft circuit near Darlington on 5/6th May. With Peter again joining Connell Racing for the season, and the team switching to the successful Abbey Motorsport, hopes are high for a great debut.

"Richard and I tested the car at Donington and felt it was much improved since last year, in several areas. The team certainly know what they are doing, under the watchful eye of Tony (Gillam) and this makes all the difference in a very competitive championship."

MARCH 2007 POTENTIAL DEAL FOR NURBURGRING

Peter is in discussion for a top ride at the Nurburgring 24 hour race in June. Whilst nothing can be confirmed at this time, we are working hard to make it happen.

"I'm excited to be offered a drive with a competitive team, and hopefully it will allow me continued success at this top level endurance race," Pete commented. "I look forward to this race every year more than any other. For me it is without doubt the world's most challenging race track."

JANUARY 2007 ABBEY NEW YEAR!

Connell Racing (www.connell-racing.co.uk), with whom Peter will drive in 2007, have announced that their UniRoyal FunCup car will be run by the successful Abbey Motorsport (www.abbeymotorsport.co.uk) in the forthcoming season.

Abbey Motorsport enjoyed two FunCup victories in the 2006 championship and it was felt that they offered the best opportunity for success in 2007.

"I don't know the team, but admired their cars when we were at Spa. They know what it takes to win and I think together we'll make a strong package."

The first race will be on May 5/6 at Croft. See here for the full championship schedule.

DECEMBER 2006 HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

We wish all who continue to follow Peter's racing career a very happy Christmas and a successful 2007!

We are looking forward to another year of endurance racing, both in UK and abroad. Check this site through the season for  race reports and updates on Pete's plans.

NOVEMBER 2006 PETE TO JOIN CONNELL RACING

After driving for the team at Spa and at Oulton Park in 2006, team boss Ian Connell has offered Pete a full time berth at Connell Racing for 2007, contesting the UniRoyal Fun Cup endurance series alongside Ian, Richard and Marc Connell.

"I am really excited to have the opportunity to drive the car next year," Pete commented. "For a number of reasons, it has been a long time since I was able to compete across a full season in the UK, and having enjoyed the car tremendously this year, I can't think of a better place to kick things off again!".

Anticipated sponsors for 2007 include SPAR, Cuisine de France, VK Vodka Kick, Fuchs Lubricants, Coca Cola, Volvic, Flair Shop Fitters, Stalite Signs, Branston Beans, Gregory Distribution, Bank Machine, Pyramid Presentations, Pensworth Diary.

More details may be found at the team's official website: http://www.connell-racing.co.uk/ and at www.fun-cup.com.

OCTOBER 2006 BEETLE LUCK NEXT TIME!

Last Saturday, the Cuisine de France car competed in the 4 hour endurance race at Oulton Park in Cheshire, in the capable hands of Ian and Marc Connell with Peter once again invited to join the driver line up.

The race started well, the 190 car charging up through the field to run competitively in second place, and closing on the leading JPR car until the first pit stops, which were completed under the safety car due to an on-track accident. On the re-start, the car was unfortunate to get caught up in a first corner scrum, and was immediately hobbled by a puncture and bent suspension.

The team did what they could, attempting to dial out the damage to the suspension settings, and the car continued to circulate, albeit somewhat off the pace and oversteering wildly. Eventually, with the handling becoming unmanageable, the decision was made to retire in the last stint to avoid the risk of any further damage.

SEPTEMBER 2006 OULTON CALL UP!!

On 7th October at Oulton Park in Cheshire, Peter will once again get behind the wheel of the UniRoyal FunCup race car he successfully piloted at Spa alongside Ian and Marc ConnelL. Unfortunately the very rapid Richard Connell is unable to attend due to commitments with the Super Aguri F1 squad.

"Ian has very kindly offered me this drive in the Oulton Park 4 hour enduro. If I am honest, before I drove the car at Spa, I was not sure what to expect, but now I know how much fun these cars can be, I am really looking forward to another opportunity in the car. Oulton Park is my original home circuit. I grew up a short distance away and have many fond memories of this unique track. With the set-up developments we found at Spa, I believe we will be very competitive there".

More pictures of this lightweight, mid-engined car can be found on www.connell-racing.co.uk. More on these cars and the championship can be found on www.uniroyalteamchallenge.co.uk

JULY 2006 SECOND AT SPA!

On 8/9th July, over 150 VW Uniroyal FunCup race cars assembled at the Spa Francorchamps F1 track in Belgium to contest the longest endurance circuit race in the world, the Spa 25 hours.

Peter was invited to drive alongside VW FunCup regulars Ian and Marc Connell, in the Cuisine de France car. After employing an early tactic of staying out of trouble, the team drove consistently fast to deliver a fantastic second in class result, and ninth overall.

"I really enjoyed myself this weekend," Peter grinned afterwards. "The series is well named and the cars are very entertaining, with dices going on for lap after lap. I'd do this again like a shot!"

For a more detailed report of the race, including the incredible team effort that went on behind the scenes, please click here.

Overall results can also be viewed at http://www.ris-timing.be/btcs/25h/2006/25hr.htm, and a wide selection of photographs can be viewed on the team's website at http://www.connell-racing.co.uk/.

JUNE 2006 BITTER-SWEET PODIUM

Last weekend, the famous 2006 Nurburgring 24 hour race was contested in unusually hot conditions, giving the drivers and teams yet another challenge at the "Grüne Hölle".

Peter again drove the highly modified Honda Civic Type R of Peter Venn, the team also entering a second similarly-specified Civic this year.

Things did not go as smoothly as expected (things never do at the Nordshleife) but ultimately the team claimed a fantastic podium at the finish.

"I was really pleased with how the car performed, and the excellent support of Toyo tyres, our new partners," Peter commented. "We struggled a little in the high temperatures but ultimately sorted that out. It was frustrating to lose one car in the early hours of the morning but the podium finish in the other car made up for that!"

Overall results can also be viewed at http://adac.24h-rennen.de/portals/24h/extern/ResultDB/live.asp

MAY 2006 NURBURGRING THING

With the 2006 Nurburgring 24 hour race just around the corner (June 17/18th), Peter is putting in more preparation this year than any other.

"I know the Civic is a superb car for this race, and I'm grateful to Peter (Venn) for the continued faith in my abilities. The Nordschleife is like no other track, and is mentally and physically more demanding. I'm working on my fitness to a higher degree than last year and I'll be going out to the track later this month to give some driver training sessions, so it'll be a good warm up for the 24 hours."

The Nurburgring Nordschleife welcomes over 150,000 spectators to this awesome 24 hour race each year, with more than 200 cars from all over the world taking the start. Book yourself a weekend in the Eiffel mountains this year and enjoy a racing spectacle which you won't find anywhere else. Just remember to bring your walking boots!

APRIL 2006 SPA 25 HRS

As featured in previous News items, Peter has been offered a seat in one of the front running British UniRoyal FunCup cars, for the 25 hour endurance race at Spa Francorchamps (8/9th July).

"I have decided to go ahead and do this one, for a number of reasons, not least of which it will be a lot of fun to drive with Ian (Connell) again. Spa is always fantastic, and although the car is a little different to what I am used to, I expect we will have a competitive showing."

MARCH 2006 SILVERSTONE 24HRS

The awesome Honda Civic Type R, which Peter will drive in the Nurburgring 24 hours, may also be entered in the Silverstone 24 hour race (9-10th September).

"It's in discussion right now. Peter (Venn, the car owner) is looking at the details and I hope it comes off. Having competed in that race last year, I know the Civic would be awesome, come rain or shine, and personally I have always gone well at Silverstone".

Peter drove a Brunswick Racing 400bhp Mazda RX7  at the 2005 Silverstone 24 hours, and despite a flooded track and numerous technical difficulties, the car lapped competitively and took the finish.

"I would love to drive that car again, if it can be as reliable as the Civic. I've made no decisions yet so we'll see how things pan out over the summer."

FEBRUARY 2006 NURBURGRING CALL BACK

We are pleased to announce Pete has once again been invited to drive Peter Venn's awesome Honda Civic Type R in the 2006 Nurburgring 24 hour race (June 17/18th).

The partnership produced a fantastic result last year where the team recovered from an early setback which dropped the car to 199th position, to finish 22nd overall. This was an incredible achievement and testimony also to the skill of Peter Venn, Dave Allen and Marcel Hoppe who drove the car alongside Pete.

"I am very happy to drive the Civic in the 24 hours again," Pete commented. "It never really missed a beat in the same race last year and since then the team have developed the suspension and transmission which should provide us with an even quicker car. The competition will be as fierce as ever but our challenge has to be to beat our 2005 result!"

The Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit is by far the most demanding race track in the world, stretching over 14 miles through the Eifel mountains of northwest Germany, and boasting a history of stunning events unrivalled by any other venue. With a huge entry of race cars from all over the world, the 2006 24 hour race promises to be a fantastic event for the 150,000 fans expected to attend. For more information, please check www.24hrennen.de

DECEMBER 2005 HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

We wish all who continue to follow Peter's racing career a very happy Christmas and a successful 2006!

We are looking forward to another year of endurance racing, a category in which Peter has enjoyed considerable success. Check this site to stay in touch as our plans unfold in the New Year.

NOVEMBER 2005 SPA 25 HOURS 2006

Peter is in discussion for a ride in the 2006 Spa Francorchamps 25 hour race, to be held on 8/9th July next year. This race is run as part of the VW Uniroyal FunCup (see www.uniroyalteamchallenge.co.uk) and in 2005 featured 110 starters, all racing identical cars from the regional championships in Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and of course the UK.

VW Fun Cup

The race cars use a unique very strong tubular steel chassis with VW Beetle composite bodywork, powered by the ultra-reliable mid-mounted Audi 1.8 engine. This sealed unit generates around 130bhp, which, when coupled with the car's light weight, provides a power to weight ratio of over 200bhp per tonne, which is delivered to the track via Uniroyal Rainsport 1 all weather tyres.

"I had a call from Ian Connell a few days ago, with an offer to drive in his team at Spa" Peter commented. "I used to race Alfas with Ian and in fact borrowed his GTV at Snetterton many moons ago, so it will be great to hook up again. I really knew very little about the Uniroyal championship or the cars involved until I looked into it, but it seems like a great formula for endurance racing. Ian, Richard and Marc have been pretty successful this year and I think we can do well at Spa together. We're just waiting for a few things to be ironed out and then we can put this in the diary."

SEPTEMBER 2005 SILVERSTONE 24 HOURS

The Brunswick Mazda RX7 GT race car made it through to the chequered flag at the inaugural Silverstone 24 hour race last weekend (10/11th Sept).

Despite a frustrating engine glitch through the first 18 hours of the race, the Brunswick team never relented and, together with Hayward Rotary, put in an enormous overnight effort to overcome the problems.

"As ever, I am in awe of the Brunswick guys," Peter commented. "We had other teams come up and say how much they respected our team for not giving up, and the pay back was a very well earned finish. The car finally proved itself to be really quick, despite the fact that it is right at the beginning of it's development program, and we were able to learn a lot from this event."

A full report of the Silverstone 24 hour race from Peter's perspective can be found here. In addition, further information on this first Silverstone 24 hour race can be found at www.britcar24hr.co.uk or www.silverstone24hr.co.uk.

SEPTEMBER 2005 SILVERSTONE TESTING

Peter joined Brunswick Automotive at a sunny Silverstone National Circuit last Friday (2nd September) to test their awesome Mazda RX7 GT race car, ahead of the inaugural Silverstone 24 hour race next weekend. Also driving the car was the experienced Mike Watson.

Mazda - Silverstone Pitlane   Mazda - Silverstone Copse Corner

The car ran faultlessly throughout the first three sessions, the team making several set up changes according to driver preference. Ultimately, Peter set a best time of 1:03.00, putting in a series of quick laps during which the Mazda drew away from a following Noble M400 (running in the more powerful GT3 class).

"I'm really impressed with this car Brunswick have built," Peter commented. "It was quick out of the box and with the changes we made, we were able to get down to a respectable time. The power is there throughout the rev range and I think if we can stay the distance, we should be in with a great chance of class honours."

Unfortunately, the team experienced a freak engine problem during Mike's run in the final session, which brought the test to a premature close. The fault has since been traced, and a replacement powerplant will be installed prior to departing for Silverstone midweek.

A full report of the Silverstone 24 hour race from Peter's perspective will appear on this site. In the meantime, please see www.britcar24hr.co.uk or www.silverstone24hr.co.uk for information on this fantastic event.

AUGUST 2005 NORDSCHLEIFE FRUSTRATION

The 6 hour race at the Nurburgring Nordschleife attracted approximately 200 cars last Saturday (27th August), with Pete entered to pilot the Honda Civic Type R alongside Peter Venn and Dave Allen. This was part of the VLN championship which Dave and Peter normally contest alone, but Pete was drafted in for this longer race.

However, the event did not go according to plan: after technical problems in qualifying, a major crash ended the event in the first stint, before Pete could even get into the car!

"We just seemed to be battling with the car throughout, and the crash was the culmination of a very frustrating weekend," he commented. "But this car and team have got what it takes to win, as we proved in the 24 hours, and next time we will be back at the sharp end."

For a more detailed race report, please click here. Pictures of the event are now also available in the Gallery section. For more information on this race series, please see www.vln.de

AUGUST 2005 TEAM 130R SCORES ANOTHER PODIUM

Last weekend (14th August) was the fourth annual charity karting event at Thruxton (near Andover), in aid of BLISS (Baby Life Support Systems). The event will be televised in an hour long special on Motors TV in the coming months.

Peter was again driving for Team 130R with the usual suspects (Piers, Alex and Paul Roache) who this year were joined by tri-athlete Tracy Peacock. The team were competing against many famous names, including David Brabham, Darren Turner, Kelvin Burt and Jamie Green.

In the main endurance race, Team 130R led throughout most of the first hour, despite struggling with a wayward kart (which actually handled better after an early altercation with the barriers!). The team eventually achieved a fantastic 3rd place finish, Peter crossing the line in the final stint after two and a half hours of frantic action.

Nice slide!

The later 30 lap "sprint" race starting order was drawn out of a hat, and from a lowly starting position of 14th, there were simply not enough laps for the team to climb higher than 7th place at the flag.

More importantly, several thousand pounds were raised for the charity through sponsorship of the event, and through a raffle and auction of racing memorabilia on the day. More details of this charity can be found on the organiser's website: www.racingforcharity.com.

JULY 2005 NURBURGRING CALLING!

Pete received a surprise call up for the forthcoming Nurburgring 6 hour race (27th August), from the same team he ran with at the recent Nurburgring 24 hour race.

The event will see Pete re-united with three-quarters of the 24 hour team, including fellow driver and team boss Peter Venn, as well as ex-touring car driver Dave Allen.

"It's great to have the chance to race the Honda again with Peter and Dave. They have apparently made good progress developing the car which is significantly quicker than when I last drove it, and I really like the way we gelled as a team. All being well, we should have another great result!"

The 6 hour race will be held on the famous Nordschleife circuit, together with the "new" Grand Prix loop. There will be many of the 24 hour adversaries on track, including the Schubert BMWs, the Kissling Astras and several other quick machines.

Check this site after the race for a complete event report. In the meantime, you may like to read the SPECIAL FEATURE on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, a truly awesome race track!

JUNE 2005 AMAZDA-ING OPPORTUNITY FOR SILVERSTONE 24 HOUR

We are happy to announce Brunswick Automotive have offered Peter a top seat in their newly developed Mazda RX7 GT car, for the inaugural Silverstone 24 hour race on 10/11th September.

Mazda RX7 GT Mazda RX7 GT

"I am really pleased to have a chance to race again with Brunswick. We've had some excellent experiences in the past and I really like the way the team goes about its business. No frills, no b.s., just focusing on building and running the best car. If the Mazda is as reliable as it should be, we've got a great opportunity in this race."

The 24 hour race will be held on the fabulous Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit, and there will be opportunities for spectators to walk the pit and paddock throughout the race to witness the drama unfolding. 85 cars are expected to start the race, with the Mazda entered in the GT class. Peter is likely to be reunited again with F3000 and World Sportscar champion Vincenzo Sospiri, in addition to the car's owners Giles Groombridge and Dave Ashford..

The event, organised by the European Endurance & Racing Club (www.eerc.co.uk) promises to be a UK version of "Le Mans" with live music, firework displays, a hot air balloon race, and of course a fun fair to keep the crowds entertained throughout. The main event will be supported by a number of other races, including the Ferrari Maranello Challenge, the Dutch SuperCar Challenge and the Britsports Championship.

Sky Sports (estimated audience over 125 million including secondary broadcasts) , BBC and Radio Silverstone will cover the event, which will also be projected onto the Big Screen live for the benefit of the thousands of fans attending at the trackside

Keep it here for further news as the team takes to the track with this stunning car!

MAY 2005 NURBURGRING ROLLERCOASTER

Last weekend (7/8th May), Peter took part in the gruelling Nurburgring 24 hour race in Germany, driving a Honda Civic Touring Car with Peter Venn, Dave Allan and Marcel Hoppe.

Despite a rollercoaster of a ride (emotional and physical!) in which the drivers battled all sorts of weather conditions including torrential rain, hail and snow, the team achieved a fantastic result.

"Due to our unplanned pitstop early in the race to fix the accident damage (caused when the car was unfortunately forced off the track in the first hour by a wayward backmarker), we had to push hard for the remaining twenty two hours and the Honda was absolutely bullet proof. It's a credit to ELR who built the car that we could give it 100% without any let up in performance. I would like to thank Peter Venn and the team for giving me this opportunity to drive; it was a pleasure to compete alongside such accomplished drivers, and I look forward to joining the team again in the future."

A full race report from Peter's perspective may be found in the RACE REPORT section, and photos of the Honda race car are shown in the GALLERY. In addition, all the official results and photos / videos of the event can be found at www.24hrennen.de

APRIL 2005 NURBURGRING SPECIAL FEATURE

As reported previously, Peter will be driving once again in the 24 hour race at the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife in early May.

As a prelude to this fantastic event, you may like to read the SPECIAL FEATURE on this site, providing interesting details and facts about this unique race venue.

APRIL 2005 COUNTDOWN TO THE 'RING

The awesome Nurburgring 24hrs race is almost upon us, with only a matter of weeks to go before the green light on 7th May.

As previously communicated, Peter will be piloting an ultra-competitive Honda Civic Type R, built to full Touring Car specifications. Peter will share the Honda with fellow Britons Peter Venn and Dave Allan, with talented German Marcel Hoppe joining as the fourth driver. The team have proposed that Peter drive four stints in the race, one additional to last year.

"I am really excited to be part of this team. I saw how quick the Civic was last year and we spoke briefly about getting together even then. The chance is there to have a very successful race. With good reliability and good fortune, a class win and a top twenty finish overall could even be on the cards!"

That would indeed be some achievement in a field of more than two hundred and thirty starters including high tech DTM (German Touring Car) machines. Last year's best-placed Honda Civic finished in 39th position overall.

The event begins in earnest on 6th May with the first timed qualifying session at 10am to midday, and the second qualifying session between 7pm and 11pm. The times from these sessions will determine the starting positions of the cars in the 24 hour race, which kicks off at 3pm on 7th May

A complete report of the race from Peter's perspective will be published on this site. You will also be able to watch the event on the German TV sport channel DSF, which will include over 7 hours of live coverage.

In the meantime, if you have questions about the event, please check www.24hrennen.de or e-mail info@petercate.com.

MARCH 2005 SNOW GOOD!

The recent weeks of bad weather across northern Europe have left the Nurburgring Nordschleife covered with a blanket of snow, forcing Peter to abandon testing plans this month with the Honda Civic Type R.

"The track is due for partial resurfacing which has not been completed because of the snow, and so they have been forced to temporarily close the circuit. It's a shame but the positive side is that it allows the team to concentrate on the build of a dedicated Nordschleife car, something which was a possibility but not a certainty".

This car will be built to an even higher specification, and importantly will feature an improved driving position to accommodate Peter's six foot frame. As soon as revised testing plans are in place, they will be published on this site.

JANUARY 2005 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome to another new year on petercate.com! With the usual range of driver options available, Peter is busy putting together his plans for 2005:

"I have invested a lot of time this year working to put together a deal for the future which is going to allow me to regain some direction in my driving career. Since leaving the BTCC, it has been an interesting experience jumping into a whole range of cars, often at short notice, but the downside is the limit to development and progress I can make with a car or team when we have so little time together. I believe the basis of a deal is on the table for 2005 and beyond, which will enable me to find the stability everyone needs for championship success".

One thing is for sure: Peter will continue to be involved in the ever-more-popular endurance racing scene, having already secured a top drive for the Nurburgring 24 hour race in May (see below). Check this site to stay in touch as Peter's plans progress.

DECEMBER 2004 NURBURGRING 24 HOUR PLANS IN PLACE

This week, Peter's efforts to secure a top drive in the 2005 Nurburgring 24 hour race came to fruition with a fantastic offer to pilot a Honda Civic Type R, alongside experienced Nordschleife campaigners Peter Venn and Dave Allan.

"I am really excited about this offer," Peter said. "Ever since my Nurburgring addiction began in 2003, I realised the Civic Type R was an ideal car for the circuit. This particular Civic is pretty special though, and as long as it's reliable, with our driver line up we'll be in with a great chance!"

Honda Civic Type R

Run by Fleper Motorsport, the car has already performed exceptionally well (despite currently running a regular gearbox), winning its first race at the Nurburgring (SP3 Grp A and the Civic Challenge Cup) in September. Dave Allan commented, "The team and Peter Venn are very excited about this new car and with the full spec motor and the sequential 'box it should be awesome!"

The 2005 Nurburgring 24hr will take place on 5th-8th May (with the race starting in the afternoon of 7th May). The official Nurburgring 24 hour website may be found at www.24hrennen.de, and a full race report will appear on this website. Should you be interested becoming involved as a team sponsor for this incredible and unique event, please contact us on info@petercate.com for more details.

In the meantime we wish you all a very happy Christmas! We would like to thank all our sponsors and fans for their support during 2004 and look forward to more of the same in a successful 2005!

OCTOBER 2004 ITV SPEED SUNDAY

Last weekend (2nd October), Peter again took part in the annual charity karting event at Thruxton (near Andover), in aid of BLISS (Baby Life Support Systems) and Acorns Playgroup for Children with special needs. The event will be televised on ITV Speed Sunday in October.

This is the third year that this successful event has taken place, and organiser Bill Williams arranged a packed agenda with a host of racing celebrities participating, including Jason Plato, Tom Chilton, James Kaye, Perry McCarthy, Kelvin Burt, and Johnny Mowlem. From ITV came Vicki Butler-Henderson and Gareth Davies.

Thruxton Charity Karting

Peter and his regular team mates Piers, Alex and Paul Roache, were hoping to at least repeat the two second place finishes achieved in the last two years, but despite a smart fuel strategy, a rear puncture caused by an errant back-marker late in the race cost the team 4 laps in the pitlane, and despite a mammoth effort to the flag, 7th place was the best the team could achieve.

More importantly, a lot of money was raised for the charities through sponsorship of the event, and through a raffle and auction of racing gear on the day. More details of this event can be found on the organiser's website: www.racingforcharity.com.

SEPTEMBER 2004 SO NEAR, SO SPA...

After a weekend of mixed weather and fortunes, Reflex Racing came home with second in class thanks to a solid drive in one of their Ginettas driven by Max and Martin Henderson. Peter unfortunately returned with little more than a pocket full of Spa gravel after an altercation with another competitor left both in the gravel trap.

"This was clearly not what I wanted from the weekend, and I'm disappointed for the team and for Tom (Ferrier)," Peter said. "However, the Ginetta lived up to my expectations, and I'm still keen to do the championship in 2005, as long as there are no races with Morgans involved!"

To read about this event from Peter's perspective, follow this RACE REPORT link. To find photographic images of Peter's endurance racing in 2004, including pictures of the Reflex Ginetta at Spa, please click here.

The Ginetta championship will continue to support the British GT championship in 2005 and enjoys excellent coverage on Sky Sports, the racing being ultra-close as the cars are very evenly matched. For further information on the Ginetta championship, please click here, or visit www.ginettacars.com.

SEPTEMBER 2004 SPA FRANCORCHAMPS FEATURE

Located in an ideal spot in the forested green Ardennes, Spa-Francorchamps circuit has hosted 38 out of the 50 Belgian Grand Prix run to date. Formula One has been held in Zolder ten times and in Nivelles twice. In 1920, a race track was first created by taking advantage of the triangle formed by the roads connecting the villages of Malmedy, Stavelot and Francorchamps.

By August 1921, track preparations had been completed. However, the circuit's inaugural event was not a car race but a motorcycle event due to a lack of interest. Cars eventually made their debut at Spa in 1922.

1924 saw Spa host the first 24-hour race. That was followed by the first significant single-seater event in 1925, namely the European Grand Prix. Of the seven cars that took part, Antonio Ascari won in an Alfa Romeo.

The Second World War brought an end to racing at Spa for seven years, up until 1947. 1970 witnessed the last race on the old course which, up to then, had been 14 kilometres long. Cars had become too fast for the track and drivers refused to accept the risks involved. The current shortened 6.968km circuit opened in 1979.

In 2003, Spa did not host a Formula One race due to tobacco advertising restrictions. In the interim, modifications were carried out around the old Bus Stop chicane and the track was extended by ten metres.

Other well-known features of the circuit, apart from the incredible roller coaster that is Eau Rouge, are the fast Blanchimont section and La Source, the hairpin soon after the start which saw the biggest pile-up in Formula One history in 1998, fortunately without any injury to the drivers involved.

SEPTEMBER 2004 SPA CALLING!

Peter will be racing this weekend (18-19th September) at the famous Spa Francorchamps Formula 1 circuit in Belgium with Reflex Racing, driving one of their successful Ginetta G20 championship cars alongside front-runner Tom Ferrier.

"The call came out of the blue late last week," Pete commented. "Although we'd talked about Spa at Castle Combe, I wasn't really expecting it to happen, but thanks to the efforts of Derek and Chris at Reflex, we were able to put something together at the last minute. I'm looking forward to driving alongside Tom who has been a championship contender throughout this season; I think we stand a great chance in this event. Tom, Derek and Max Henderson (also driving at Spa) have a lot of experience driving the G20 and that all goes to help me get the best out of the car, hopefully ahead of a full championship campaign in 2005"

The Ginetta championship will continue to support the British GT championship in 2005 and enjoys excellent coverage on Sky Sports, the racing being ultra-close as the cars are very evenly matched. For further information on the Ginetta championship, please click here, or visit www.ginettacars.com.

AUGUST 2004 USE THE G FORCE

Thanks to Ginetta Cars and Reflex Racing, Pete enjoyed a successful return to Castle Combe circuit this week, driving the Ginetta G20. The test took place in dry but blustery conditions, with Pete driving Derek Holden's championship car, kindly offered for the day.

"I had a blast," Pete smiled afterwards. "I hadn't been to Combe since winning the Dunlop Alfa Romeo championship in 1995, and the chicanes they've put in since then were a bit of an eye-opener. The intention was to run a few laps in the middle of Derek's test day, and I found the Ginetta to be a lot of fun, nicely balanced, with just the right level of grip for the power. The boys at Reflex certainly know what they're doing and I want to thank them for this opportunity. I think we'd be a serious championship contender if I run with them in 2005."

The Ginetta championship supports the British GT championship and enjoys excellent coverage on Sky Sports, the racing being ultra-close as the cars are very evenly matched. For further information on the Ginetta championship, please click here, or visit www.ginettacars.com.

JULY 2004 BEST LAID PLANS

Although the 2004 racing season is only halfway through, our plans for Peter's racing in 2005 are already taking shape, with fruitful sponsorship discussions underway.

"Although I've found my style fits very well with long distance GT and Enduro events, competitive opportunities in that arena are few and far between. Whilst I would of course consider a serious offer to drive in the British GT or LMES, I want to get back to achieving championship success rather than doing and event here and there. I'm already looking into a few options and ideally we'll get things sorted out early so we can prepare properly for 2005"

See the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section for details about Peter's Endurance racing, and for more sponsorship information, please e-mail us on info@petercate.com.

JUNE 2004 NURBURGRING NIGHTMARE!

Last weekend (12/13th June), Peter joined Team Think northwestern Germany to contest the 24 hour race at a very wet Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Despite suffering a heavy impact in the middle of the night, the team came through to take the flag at 3pm on Sunday. All the details of the event from Peter's perspective may be found in the RACE REPORT section. To find photographic images of the Team Think car at this event, please click here.

Our thanks also go to our sponsors i-TRAK who supported Peter at this event, along with team sponsors Renault, Autocar magazine and Michelin tyres.

See the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section for details about Peter's Endurance racing, and for more sponsorship information, please e-mail us on info@petercate.com.

JUNE 2004 PETER "THINKS" NURBURGRING!

Peter has been signed up to drive the Team Think Renault Clio at the Nurburgring 24hr event on 12/13th June. The Team Think website may be found at www.teamthink.co.uk.

"This year's decision came very late, as I wanted to be sure I was doing the right thing, but Meyrick Cox at Team Think convinced me his operation is the right one to go with for a number of reasons. They are an experienced team, they have a proven car, and a good driver line up. I'm excited to be part of this challenge and looking forward to returning to the Nurburgring, undoubtedly the world's best test of a driver's skills".

Sharing the car with Peter will be Chris Harris (test editor of Autocar magazine), Anthony Coxon and Meyrick Cox, all of whom have had extensive experience at the Nurburgring circuit in previous years.

Team Think Renault Clio

Although slightly less powerful on paper than the Alfa Romeo 156 Peter drove last year, in fact the Clio is quicker around the Nordschleife circuit by at least a half minute, due to its low weight and amazing agility through the 84 corners which make up each 24.427km lap. In the 2003 event a similar Clio finished 38th overall (out of more than 200 entrants) and Peter is hoping that Team Think can better that performance. Of course a lot will depend on the team experiencing no mechanical dramas during the 24 hours of gruelling racing.

Full details of this classic race can be found on the official website: www.24h-rennen.de (English version available). Peter will again be supported at the Nurburgring by sponsor i-TRAK, the on-line luggage tracking specialist, whose website can be found at www.i-trak.com.

MAY 2004 GEARING UP FOR NURBURGRING

Peter is currently planning his return to the infamous Nurburgring 24 hour race (12-13th June), run on the awesome 14 mile Nordschleife circuit in the Eifel mountains of northwestern Germany. There is no circuit like the Nordschleife (which was considered long ago to be too dangerous for Formula 1) and simply completing this race of races is a great achievement by the teams and drivers involved.

"We had a great time with Brunswick there last year with the Alfa 156, scoring a respectable finish at my first attempt, despite a few mechanical problems. I'm talking to several teams for this year's race, the intention being to move up the grid without compromising reliability. There are a lot of fast cars out there which wouldn't see the sunrise!"

Full details of this classic race can be found on the official website: www.24h-rennen.de (English version available). With vast crowds of 150,000 fans trackside, together with excellent TV coverage, this event is a must for sponsors who are interested in boosting public awareness in Central Europe, as well as those wishing to associate their brand with the ultimate driving challenge..!

APRIL 2004 BRITISH GTs ARE GO!

The British GT Championship kicked off in style at Donington Park last weekend, with two exciting races confirming the potential of the new race weekend format.

Full reports and pictures are available on the newly-updated British GT website: www.britishgt.com

Please continue to regularly visit petercate.com to stay in touch with Peter's ongoing progress towards a return to this top-level championship.

MARCH 2004 STAYING FOCUSED

With discussions still ongoing at this time, we can only ask GT fans to be patient before we announce Peter's immediate racing future. There have been several distractions in recent weeks, with numerous offers of alternative drives for Peter in the British GT championship and beyond, but we intend to keep our focus and put together the long-term deal which has been our target since November last year.

"Talk of Ferrari, Porsche and Mazda drives is very tempting, but I have to think about the bigger picture and I truly hope we can sort out our number one goal, even if we are a little late this year. The intention is to use 2004 as a springboard for activities in 2005, which is why the deal is more complex and time-consuming than usual."

FEBRUARY 2004 SOLID PROGRESS

We are pleased to announce Peter is in strong contention for a top-level drive in the British GT Championship. We hope to be able to reveal an agreement very soon, and in the meantime are working to finalize the deal.

"For some time I have been talking with a specific team with regard to 2004 and beyond, and I am really happy with the direction our discussions have gone, although it would be good to have everything resolved already! This team have plans which closely match what I would like to achieve in this stage of my career, and we're giving it 200% to make sure everything comes together."

Check this site to stay in touch with our progress towards the start of the season in April.

JANUARY 2004 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Although at this point we cannot announce Peter's intentions for the forthcoming season, discussions are moving positively with regard to our main target drive within the 2004 British GT Championship, in addition to selected GT events in Europe.

"Whilst it is great to have options available, one opportunity stands head and shoulders above the others and I will grab it with both hands when the opportunity arises."

Check this site to stay in touch with Peter's plans for 2004. In the meantime, we wish you all a happy and successful 2004 race season!

DECEMBER 2003 HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

We would like to thank all our sponsors and fans for their support this year, particularly i-TRAK for their continuing involvement in Peter's racing career.

Peter is in discussion with a number of teams for the 2004 season, with a variety of exciting options on the table. We hope to be able to announce Peter's direction early in 2004, as testing gets underway.

"Whilst I enjoyed my time in the BTCC, I am keen to continue with the GT and Endurance Racing next year, but move it up a gear," he commented. "The tactical aspects and the teamwork in this type of racing are really enjoyable. In 2003 I shared the cars with a range of drivers (including ex-F1 driver Vincenzo Sospiri), all of whom had differing styles. It was a new experience to have to compromise on car set-up to suit everyone's needs, and I'm a stronger driver as a result. I'm looking forward to using all my experience across a complete season in 2004, either in UK or mainland Europe."

Check this site to stay in touch with Peter's plans for 2004. In the meantime we wish you all a very happy Christmas and a successful 2004!

NOVEMBER 2003 BRUNSWICK PLANS MAZDA ATTACK FOR 2004!

Brunswick Endurance Racing have embarked on an exciting new project for the 2004 racing season. Recently the team took delivery of a Twin Turbo Mazda RX-7 that is being prepared for GT and Endurance events in the UK and Europe.

The development will be run in association with renowned rotary engine specialists Rotechniks. The Mazda RX-7 has a long and successful record in international sportscar racing, primarily in Japan and the United States.

Mazda RX7

Mazda famously triumphed at Le Mans in 1991 using the same unique rotary engine technology that powers the RX-7. "We expect the car to be extremely competitive," commented team boss Giles Groombridge. "The basis is already a proven package so we do not expect reliability to be an issue."

With several successful outings for Brunswick in 2003, Peter is in the frame for a seat in the Mazda. "In Brunswick, I found a skilful team full of enthusiasm, which was not always rewarded this year with the results they deserved," he said. "The Mazda will allow Brunswick to show its full potential, and I am excited to have this as an option for 2004."

Prior to its racing debut, regular updates following the construction of the Mazda can be found on the Brunswick website.

OCTOBER 2003 PETER TAKES CLASS POLE POSITION AT DONINGTON!

Despite organisational challenges associated with the new evening race format, the EERC (European Endurance Racing Club) 100 minute race on 18th October at Donington Park was a great success.

To read about the challenges faced by Brunswick Endurance Racing at this event, with Peter again at the wheel of their Lotus Elise, click here.

For more information on the EERC, pls feel free to check the official website on www.eerc.co.uk.

OCTOBER 2003 DONINGTON IN THE DARK

Brunswick Endurance Racing will contest this weekend's EERC (European Endurance Racing Club) 100 minute race held on Saturday evening (18th October) at Donington Park. Peter has been called up again to drive their Lotus Elise, alongside regular Brunswick driver Rachid Bouzouba.

The EERC qualifying and race will take place within hours of each other, placing the emphasis on reliability. "We've got a great car in the Lotus and a great team to run it," Peter commented. "Now we just need a little of the luck that's evaded us in the last couple of events."

For more information on the EERC, pls feel free to check the official website on www.eerc.co.uk.

SEPTEMBER 2003 BRANDS HATCH BLUES

Brunswick Endurance Racing contested the last round of the British GT Championship at Kent's impressive Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit last weekend. Peter once again was at the wheel with regular Brunswick driver Rachid Bouzouba.

The event turned out to be challenging in every sense, as the team and drivers pushed to improve the car's performance still further. A complete report of the weekend may be found here.

The Brands Hatch event will be covered by Channel 4 (11th October) and Motors TV (multiple broadcasts: times to be determined) as part of the British GT championship. For more details on the British GT Championship, including the TV schedule, please feel free to check www.f3-gt.com

Thanks again must go to our sponsors at i-TRAK, for their continued support this season and commitment for the future.

SEPTEMBER 2003 LATE CALL UP FOR BRANDS!

Impressed with his race performances through the 2003 season, Brunswick Endurance Racing have once again called up Peter to drive for the team at the British GT championship round at Brands Hatch on 28th September.

The event will be contested on the famous Grand Prix track at the Kent venue, and will give the team a chance to show the true capabilities of their very rapid Lotus Elise. Peter will share the car with its regular driver Rachid Bouzouba.

"It was good to get the call from Giles (Brunswick team boss)," said Peter. "I have really enjoyed working with Brunswick; they've made me feel right at home. I'm looking forward to getting back out on the Brands GP circuit where my Lotus campaign started in 2000. It's one of the best UK tracks and it'll be interesting to see how the changes they have made (to Dingle Dell chicane) affect the racing."

The Brands Hatch event will be covered by Channel 4 (11th October) and Motors TV (multiple broadcasts: times to be determined) as part of the British GT championship. For more details on the British GT Championship, including the TV schedule, please feel free to check www.f3-gt.com

SEPTEMBER 2003 SUNSHINE AND RAIN AT SPA

First run in 1966, and with a host of famous winners, the classic 1000km event returned to Spa Francorchamps in Belgium last weekend (29-31st August). The race was contested by cars from the FIA Sportscar Championship (SR1 and SR2 sports-prototypes), as well as those from the British GT championship.

Brunswick Endurance Racing fielded their rapid Lotus Elise, with Peter again sharing the driving duties, and as at Oulton Park, were able to impress rivals with their raw speed. The complete report of the weekend from Peter's perspective may be found here. The official Spa website also can be found at www.spa-francorchamps.be.

The Spa event will be covered by Channel 4 (12th September) and Motors TV (multiple broadcasts: times to be determined) as part of the British GT championship. For more details on the British GT Championship, including the TV schedule, please feel free to check www.f3-gt.com

AUGUST 2003 ALL REVVED UP FOR SPA!

With the gruelling Spa 1000km event scheduled for 31st August, Brunswick Endurance Racing are working hard to ready their Lotus Elise for this classic event.

With the disappointment of Oulton Park British GT event now behind them (where the car was knocked off the track in the race after setting some blistering times), the team is looking forward to a strong performance in Belgium, where Peter will be sharing the silver Lotus with fellow British Touring Car driver Graham Saunders, and successful Michelin Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racer Rupert Bullock.

Peter is currently training hard to prepare for a hot weekend! "The weather in central Europe has been unbelievable, most days recently being in the mid thirties. It's been handy to have similar temperatures in UK, so I've been able to get used to the conditions during my training schedule. Having said that, knowing Spa it'll probably rain!"

The recent Spa 24hr event certainly experienced a downpour, which worked against the more powerful cars that could not put their power advantage to good use in the low-grip conditions. The Brunswick Lotus, with it's great agility and handling, will be well placed to take advantage of such a situation, especially when coupled with Peter's experience around the Spa-Francorchamps Formula 1 circuit.

The Spa event will be covered by Channel 4 (6th September) and Motors TV (multiple broadcasts: times to be determined) as part of the British GT championship. For more details on the British GT Championship, including the TV schedule, please feel free to check www.f3-gt.com

JULY 2003 OULTON WEEKEND FULL OF HIGHS AND LOWS

Brunswick Motorsport's appearance at the British GT Championship last weekend at Oulton Park in Cheshire was quite a debut! The team experienced a number of niggling problems with their Lotus Elise, which was undeniably quick when it ran in the hands of both Peter and his illustrious team-mate Vincenzo Sospiri.

"The whole team really had their work cut out this weekend" Peter commented. "We found a lot of time from set up changes but in doing so triggered a series of secondary problems which were overcome with typical Brunswick enthusiasm and maximum effort."

With a range of competitive machinery ranging from other more powerful Elises, Ferraris, Porsches and even a Marcos Mantis, the event was set for a giant-killing act on the part of Brunswick. Did they achieve their goal? Check the RACE REPORT to find out!

Our thanks again go to sponsors i-TRAK, who will join us again as we journey to Spa in Belgium for the 1000km race on 31st August.

JULY 2003 CATO TO TEAM UP WITH SOSPIRI!

As revealed previously, Peter will be driving Brunswick's Lotus Elise in the Cup Class of the BRDC British GT Championship rounds at Oulton Park and at Spa (1000km), supported at both events by our sponsors i-TRAK.

We are extremely pleased and excited to announce that Peter will be sharing the Lotus at Oulton Park with none other than ex-F1 driver and former F-3000 champion Vincenzo Sospiri!

"Driving alongside someone of Vincenzo's experience will be fantastic", Peter commented. "He has been very successful in a variety of championships, and the opportunity to see how I stack up in the same car was one I wasn't ready to pass up!"

The Oulton Park event will kick off with a test day on Friday 11th July, with qualifying on Saturday 12th July and the race on Sunday 13th July.

The event will be covered by Channel 4 and Motors TV. For more details on the British GT Championship, including the TV schedule, please feel free to check www.f3-gt.com

JUNE 2003 NEW BTCC SCHEDULE AND RULE CHANGE ANNOUNCED!

The success of the British Touring Car Championship is set to move into top gear in 2004 with the recent announcement that the championship will support next year's Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone! This provides teams and sponsors alike with access to the massive crowds and media coverage associated with this prestigeous event.

In addition, the BTCC will continue to join forces with the UK Champ Car round at Brands Hatch, an event which proved so successful in May 2003.

With a rule change allowing European Touring Cars (ETCC) to enter the BTCC in 2004, the door is open to famous racing marques such as BMW and Alfa Romeo to join the likes of Honda, Vauxhall, MG, Peugeot and Proton here in the UK's top-level saloon car series.

To read more about the BTCC, or other championships in which Peter has the opportunity to compete, pls see the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section of this site.

JUNE 2003 BRUNSWICK SUCCESS AT NURBURGRING!

Last weekend (31st May / 1st June), Peter joined Brunswick Endurance Racing in northwestern Germany to contest the 24 hour race at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Amidst plenty of dramas, incredible atmosphere and intense competition, the team's Alfa Romeo 156 came through to finish very respectably at 3pm on Sunday. All the details of the event from Peter's perspective may be found in the RACE REPORT section. To find photographic images of the Brunswick car at this event, please click here.

Our thanks also go to our sponsors i-TRAK, who supported Peter at this event.

See the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section for details of the Endurance series, and for more sponsorship details please e-mail us on info@petercate.com.

MAY 2003 NURBURGRING IS HERE!

The first Endurance race of Peter's season kicks off this week at the world famous and much-respected Nordschleife track set high in the forested German Eifel mountains.

With its 76 corners, steep gradients and blind brows, the old 14 mile circuit is now considered too dangerous for current Formula 1 racing, and the new Nurburgring Grand Prix track was built close by. This weekend's 24 hour race makes use of both the Grand Prix circuit and the old track combined, and is considered to be one of the most challenging events in the world for driver and car alike. Over 200 cars will start the gruelling race at 3pm on Saturday 31st May.

"Since I started to race, I have always wanted a crack at the Nurburgring 24hrs," Peter commented. "It's one of those places which is unique and I want to get in there in case they shut it down! We took a car around there last weekend to refresh our memories - it certainly takes some learning and it's not the kind of track to forgive a mistake!"

Peter will first take the wheel of the Brunwsick Alfa 156 in qualifying on Friday, along with Brunswick's Giles Groombridge, Gary Lucas (experienced Alfa racer) and David Smith (who competed in the race last year in a BMW M3 Evo).

After a recent test, Peter feels good about the Alfa commenting "The car is excellent, very responsive but predictable, with a smooth power curve, exactly what we need for a long and demanding event. The Brunswick crew have really done their homework on the car and it shows."

After the race, a complete RACE REPORT will appear on this site, detailing the team's fortunes throughout the 2003 Nurburgring 24hrs. In the meantime, our thanks go to our sponsors i-TRAK , who will be supporting Peter both at this and future events.

See the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section for details of the Endurance series, and for more sponsorship details please e-mail us on info@petercate.com.

APRIL 2003 NURBURGRING & BRITISH GTs CONFIRMED

With the race season well underway, the many driving opportunities for Peter have been narrowed down to a number of high profile races, the first of which (as previously announced) will be at the Nurburgring 24hrs on 31st May / 1st June. Peter will be one of four drivers in the Brunswick Endurance Racing team, and will take the tricky first stint in the Alfa Romeo 156 TS as the race starts at 3pm.

"The development of the Alfa is going really well" he commented. "It now has a more powerful specification engine and last week the car won its class in the 2 hour EERC race at Brands Hatch without missing a beat."

In addition to his Alfa Romeo duties, Peter will also contest a number of rounds in the British GT championship in the Brunswick Lotus Elise.

"We know the car will be competitive, and we are initially targetting the Oulton Park round (July 12/13th) and Spa 1000km (August 30/31st) as the main events, although if our ongoing sponsor discussions are successful, we may extend the campaign further."

At the Oulton Park round, Peter will share the car with a particularly exciting, world class driver who's credentials include Formula 1 as well as various F3000 and Sports Car triumphs. We will be announcing all the details closer to the event date in July.

See the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section for details of the Endurance series, and for more sponsorship details please e-mail us on info@petercate.com.

MARCH 2003 ENDURANCE PLANS TAKE SHAPE

Our plans are progressing for a 2003 season which is a step in a new direction for Peter, as he gets to grips with long distance endurance racing in an Alfa Romeo 156 and a heavily modified Lotus Sport Elise, prepared by Brunswick Motorsport. In testing so far, both the Brunswick cars have been quick and reliable, which bodes well for the season ahead.

"I'm excited by what we have in store. The Alfa will be pretty similar to the Production Touring Cars I have driven for the last two years, and I also have a year's experience in the Lotus Elise from the 2000 season", Peter commented. "We are looking at the possibility to compete in selected British GT Championship rounds also, which is great series and one which can offer the sponsors much in the way of TV and crowd exposure"

A link up with a major sponsor is in discussion at this point, and a successful outcome will open the door to a much wider race programme than is currently planned.

See the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section for details of the Endurance series, and for more sponsorship details please e-mail us on info@petercate.com. Feel free to check this site as our plans progress!

JANUARY 2003 PETER GOES ENDURANCE RACING!

We can now announce that alongside his continuing BTCC plans, Peter will be undertaking a new challenge in his racing career! Throughout 2003, he will be competing in selected Endurance Racing events with the respected Brunwsick Endurance Racing team.

"I wanted to do something different, and this opportunity came up pretty quickly," Peter said. "The race schedule does not really clash with BTCC so hopefully I will have the chance to drive in a number of races."

The team will race at many of the major UK circuits, but also will be competing at major international endurance events on the European mainland such as the Nurburgring 24hrs (Germany) and Spa 24hrs (Belgium). Brunswick will be fielding an Alfa Romeo 156TS (with which they won their class in the 2002 Willhire event) as well as a lightweight Lotus Elise.

"To be honest, it was the long distance events abroad which really caught my interest. I raced at Spa, Magny Cours and the modern Nurburgring in the 2000 Lotus Elise series and to return there with Brunswick will be fantastic! The Nordschleife is something to behold, even from a Hertz car!"

The Endurance races offer sponsors incredible value for money. The major events are televised (2002 Eurosport live coverage of the Nurburgring 24hrs was watched by an estimated 15 million viewers) and attract vast crowds of over 100,000 fans. However, the sponsorship investments involved are a fraction of other top level championships in comparison with the track exposure provided.

See the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section for details of the Endurance series, and for more sponsorship details please e-mail us on info@petercate.com. Feel free to check this site as our plans progress!

DECEMBER 2002 HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

We would like to thank all our sponsors and fans for their support this year.

We are still putting together the campaign for Peter's racing next year, but in the meantime we wish you all a very happy Christmas and a successful 2003!

Check this site to stay in touch with Peter's plans for 2003.

NOVEMBER 2002 2CVs ARE FUN!

An invitation to drive in the last Enduro race of the year for the 2CVs was something Peter couldn't pass up! The cars are so different to those he normally pilots and the experience certainly was not without surprises!

"I didn't realise you could have so much fun whilst going so slow", Peter said afterwards. Click RACE REPORTS to see how he got on.

OCTOBER 2002 PREPARING FOR 2003

With several sterling performances in the BTCC Production category this year, Peter has attracted the attention of several top BTCC Touring class teams with a view to offering him a seat in 2003.

"It's an exciting time, that's for sure", Peter commented. "I have a number of opportunities for 2003 which promise to be competitive, and although I am trying to keep my options open, one drive in particular stands out amongst the rest and we are working hard to make it happen."

Next year, BTCC looks set to continue to build on the fantastic show of 2002. The championship rules are stable until 2006 which means the field will become yet more competitive, and the number of Touring class team entries is on the increase.

Check out the CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION section of this site for details of the 2003 calendar of events.

SEPTEMBER 2002 NEW ADDITION TO THE CATO FAMILY!

On 12th September, we are pleased to announce that Peter's wife Kim gave birth to a wonderful healthy baby girl, named Bethany! She weighed in at 7lbs 10oz (just under 3.5kg) and both mother and baby were able to return home from hospital just two days later.

"Both Kim and I are absolutely thrilled," Peter said. "She's already quite a character and is definitely in the driving seat as far as the running of the house goes! It's quite a responsibility and the lack of sleep is a challenge but if they can do 2 hours on, 2 hours off at Le Mans, so can we!"

After many successful outings with York City Racing this year, Peter stood down from racing in the latter part of the season to look after Kim and Bethany, but rest assured he has been planning his return already.

"I took the time to look at the options out there and although my goal of racing in the Touring class has not changed, the way I want to go into it certainly has. With the rule stability of the series now playing a major factor, there is every chance of putting a winning package together in 2003. Of course there are guys in there with great experience, and not afraid to use that "experience" on your back bumper, but if we can pull together the deal in the way we want it, we'll certainly be in the thick of it next year".

Check this site through the off-season to see how our plans progress!

JULY 2002 PETER STEPS DOWN FROM THE DRIVING SEAT

Despite frequently running at the front in the six races he contested, and finishing on the podium at Mondello Park, Peter has made a surprise decision to stand down from Team B&Q Jet York City Racing for the immediate future

"With John (B&Q) injured, I was happy to drive the car and help the team out and we scored some good results together. But my wife Kim is shortly expecting our first child and at each race weekend, an increasing part of my mind is back home with her! Since I cannot currently give the team 110% commitment, I have made the difficult decision not to drive for the time being".

Stuart Isherwood (team manager) is sorry to see Cato go, commenting, "Peter's input has certainly taken the team forward thus far. We wish him well with his expanding family and don't expect it to be long before he is back behind the wheel of a racing car."

As a stand in driver not expecting to race in 2002, Peter's performance in the aging 1999 Honda Accord has been remarkable.

Round 5 - Thruxton Sprint - after a great first lap, Peter led the race first time out - finished sixth after another car bent his steering

Round 6 - Thruxton Feature - ran second before oil leak spun him out - struggled home in tenth place after visiting the pits for repairs

Round 7 - Silverstone Sprint - gambled on slick tyres but the track didn't dry in time - took fastest lap by nearly five seconds in the closing stages

Round 8 - Silverstone Feature - ran as high as third but numerous impacts from other cars pushed him down to fifth at the flag after a good recovery drive

Round 9 - Mondello Sprint - meteoric start saw him climb to second and hold that position, but total brake failure meant a non-finish

Round 10 - Mondello Feature - a careful run to avoid brake problems in tricky wet-dry was rewarded by third place on the podium

We can only imagine what Peter would have achieved in the 2001 spec car of his team mate.

"Racing's in my blood: I love the sport and I still have as strong a desire to win as when I first started club racing! It's difficult having to stop for a while, but this is just a temporary intermission - I will be back! In the meantime I want to thank the team, and incredible B&Qsi supporters and other fans, and particularly John for giving me the unexpected opportunity to drive."

Check this site to stay in touch with Peter's future plans in this exciting and unpredictable sport!

JUNE 2002 TEAM B&Q JET YORK CITY RACING SCORE DOUBLE PODIUM AT MONDELLO!!

At the damp Irish circuit, brake failure in the Sprint cruelly denied Peter his second place. However, in the Feature, whilst the other drivers spun off in the tricky conditions, he was able to drive through to a fine third place finish.

A full report can be found in the RACE REPORTS section of this site.

MAY 2002 £1500 RAISED FOR CHARITY!

On 26th May, the Andy Williams Memorial Trophy Karting Challenge took place at the new karting facility adjacent to the Thruxton race circuit. After a lifetime working in precision engineering for many F1 and other top race teams, Andy sadly died last September. In his memory, it was decided to run a 3 hr charity karting event with proceeds to go to CLIC (Cancer & Leukemia in Children) and BLISS (Baby Life Support Systems).

Many motorsport industry people were involved, including a team from Jordan and from Williams, and a team named The Lords of the Ring comprising Peter, Nick Henry, Gareth Lewis, Piers, Paul and Alex Roache. After leading for much of the race, The Lords finished third after numerous mechanical dramas, involving three kart changes before the chequered flag was finally waved.

More importantly, the event raised over £1500 for the charities, part of which was due to an auction of racing gear. In the auction was one of Peter's old front wings from his 2001 Barwell Accord, but this of course came with a signed B&Q cap which upped the value of the wing considerably!

The organiser of the event and talented auctioneer Bill Williams of Rainbow Auctions, was happy with the day. "I know Andy would have wanted us to enjoy ourselves, and doing that whilst raising money for charity is what this is about."

Peter commented, "I've known Bill for a while now and he works hard to make Rainbow Auctions a success. Considering the amount of money spent in motorsport, it's great that he's found a way for us all to give something back. The track and facilities at Thruxton were excellent, the racing was fun, and I wouldn't be surprised if the event was repeated next year!"

MAY 2002 PETER TAKES FASTEST LAP IN SILVERSTONE BATTLE!!

A rainy Silverstone saw Peter risk everything with a tyre choice gamble in the Sprint Race which yielded fastest lap by almost 5 seconds! Before he was hit in the Feature Race, Peter was on his way to another podium finish in the old 1999 Honda Accord.

To read all the details, please see the RACE REPORTS section.

MAY 2002 PETER CONFIRMED TO CONTINUE IN 2002 BTCC!!

Following an impressive debut for the team at Thruxton last weekend, in which he lead the Sprint race and ran second in the Feature race, it has been announced that Peter Cate will continue to drive the second Team B&Q Jet York City Racing car for the foreseeable future.

John B&Q is the official driver of that car but, following an accident at Oulton Park, he was told by doctors that he could not race at Thruxton and so Peter, the team's official development driver, was drafted in as replacement.

Peter commented, "I'm really fired up after Thruxton, and I have proved that with the right car I can do good job at Silverstone, but I really feel for John. I know what it's like to watch racing when you should be driving yourself, but John has no choice. I am just happy he has placed his faith in me as his replacement"

"My main aim now is to demonstrate to John that he has made the right decision in selecting me to drive, by continuing to challenge the leaders. There are no team orders and I'll be driving to the best of my abilities. Under Stuart's (our team manager) guidance, I can see this team has massive potential and now as one of their drivers, I'll be looking to capitalize on their skills and motivation: we want to win the teams' championship and if possible even the drivers' championship!"

MAY 2002 PETER TAKES THE LEAD AT THRUXTON!!

Team B&Q Jet York City Racing test and development driver Peter Cate returned to the track at Thurxton and promptly took the lead of the race, much to the surprise of his competitors! A podium finish was only denied him after his engine developed an oil leak oin the Feature Race.

For more details on this event, please check the RACE REPORTS section of this site.

MAY 2002 PETER TO RETURN TO THE TRACK!!

In a last minute switch, lead driver John B&Q has been forced to step down from competing at Thruxton this weekend, due to his injuries sustained at Oulton Park. As the team's Test & Development driver, Peter is fit and ready to step into the breach.

"I'm really fired up and pleased to be back but obviously I really feel for John. We spoke today and he is absolutely gutted. He doesn't have to tell me what it feels like to have to watch from the sidelines," said Peter. "No driver likes to get a drive in such circumstances but that's the situation and we'll deal with it."

The car is still being repaired after John's dramatic high speed shunt at Oulton's Hilltop, which damaged both ends of the car as the car was pushed into a wild 360 degree spin, and even pushed the engine back in its mountings.

"It's vital that we get everything back to A1 condition so that the car is as competitive as possible. Unfortunately we won't have the new suspension system on the car, but if we're going to get the most out of the package this weekend, the effort the guys put in on the set up back at base will be paramount."

Peter drove a later spec Honda Accord at the 2001 BTCC Thruxton event and came away with a hard fought second place. "I know this particular Accord will be a tougher nut to crack and I'll have to work hard to stay with Jim's 2001 version, but it'll be worth it just to see John's reaction if we get a double podium! I just hope he doesn't further injure his back during the celebration!!"

You'll be able to catch Peter throughout the weekend at the Team B&Q Jet York City Racing pit. The action starts with a Free Practice session on Sunday at 10:45 which will be the first time Peter drives the car.

APRIL 2002 WE GOT THAT PODIUM!!

After much work with the set up of the cars, Team B&Q Jet York City Racing took their first podium of the year in the Feature Race at Oulton Park.

Check the RACE REPORTS section for the whole story!

MARCH 2002 PETER AGREES LONG-TERM DEAL!

We can finally announce Peter's direction this year and it won't be what many of you were expecting!

Peter will be joining Team B&Q Jet York City Racing as their the official Test & Development Driver in 2002.

"My role will be a multi-faceted one this year. I will be responsible for developing the team's 2003 cars from a driver perspective, but at the same time, I will be lending my experience to the team's Honda Accord entry this year. This is a great way to define a long-term aspect to my career, instead of hopping from one under-funded season to the next."

"Although I want to be out there challenging for the championship, that will come in time. I believe in the package John (B&Q) is pulling together and the approach he takes, and he believes in me. I see this as a great investment for my future, not unlike Alan McNish's involvement with Toyota last year."

Peter will be attending every race meeting this year to assist the team, and will be available to meet his fans at the Team B&Q Jet York City Racing pit garage!

FEBRUARY 2002 THE SEASON IS ALMOST UPON US!

We are delighted to announce that Peter is intending to run in the BTC Production class this year (see Championship Information page) and is on the verge of signing for a well-established team.

"I am really looking forward to a competitive season where I don't have to worry about the budget every day. It's been a long time since I could truly enjoy my racing without that concern and the aim is to focus completely on the success of the team."

Fans will be able to meet Peter and the team at the first official BTCC test at Silverstone circuit on 14th March, where we will be presenting the race-cars and of course our sponsors!

JANUARY 2002 PREPARING TO WIN!

As usual Peter has been working extra hard on his fitness after the Christmas break, and is in great shape and ready for the tough season ahead.

"Once again I have several offers on the table for this season, but one in particular stands out as very competitive, at least on paper. Like any BTC driver I have a strong will to win, so finding the right team and the right car is critical to allow me to finish the job I started in the 2001 championship."

Keep a look out here for Peter's racing plans in 2002, which promises to be another exciting year at the top of British motorsport!

DECEMBER 2001 HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

We would like to thank all our sponsors and fans for their support this year. We will see you on track next year, but in the meantime we wish you all a great Christmas and a successful 2002!

OCTOBER 2001 BARWELL MOTORSPORT FINISH THIRD IN BTCC PRODUCTION TEAM'S CHAMPIONSHIP

Team Kaliber Sport with Barwell, for whom Peter drove in the first three events of the season, finished third overall in the Team's championship after a rain-soaked finale at Brands Hatch last weekend. Despite many strong Barwell finishes, the GR Motorsport team took the title with their Ford Focuses.

"I am proud to have been a part of Barwell's championship challenge", Peter commented. "I scored points for the team in every race I drove but I'm disappointed that sponsorship issues prevented a continuation of the early season success."

Many congratulations to the winner, Mr B. Holland from Gloucestershire, whose entry was drawn from all the correct answers!!

Peter will be racing in the Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup at Silverstone and is looking forward to a strong return to the grid.

AUGUST 2001 Back on Track!

After a season-long sponsorship struggle, we are pleased to announce that Peter will be returning to the race track this year as a warm up to his 2002 BTCC championship assault.

With the assistance of 2000 championship winners Mark Fish Motorsport, Peter will contest the final three rounds of the Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup, supporting the BTCC events at Silverstone (9th Sept), Donington (23rd Sept) and Brands Hatch (7th Oct). Peter will first drive the car at the Oulton Park championship test on 22nd August.

"Winning in Clios is not childsplay: I chose to do it because there are some excellent drivers out there. I drove at the official Clio championship test at Silverstone last year and we were quickest in the two sessions, so I'm quietly confident."

Peter also ran with Mark Fish in the 1998 Ford Fiesta Zetec Championship, netting the team's first win in that category.

Good luck!! Competition closes on Friday 31st August.

JUNE 2001

To the disappointment of his fans, Peter has been forced to step down from the 2001 British Touring Car Championship due to factors beyond his control.

"Unfortunately, a significant team sponsor had to pull-out due to financial difficulties which left me without a drive as no alternative funds could be found".

The search for sponsorship is ongoing and Peter is intending to return to the track later this season in preparation for a full assault on the BTC championship in 2002.

Meanwhile, Team Kaliber Sport with Barwell are still leading the BTC Production team championship, helped largely by Peter's faultless finishing record and impressive results. "I'm glad I had the opportunity to show some of my potential but this is unfinished business. I'll be back!"
